Sydney Thunder team up with local school and cricket club to distribute cricket equipment

Campbelltown Collegians Cricket Club and John Therry Catholic High School in Rosemeadow have joined forces with Sydney Thunder to provide much needed support for schools in Port Orly in Vanuatu.

Eight teachers from John Therry Catholic High School will be living in the village area and volunteering their time to teach at local schools during the July holiday break. Each of the volunteers have spent the last few weeks doing fundraising for projects for the trip.

The group of teachers, including Gavan Martyn, will visit areas that still show signs of damage from Tropical Cyclone Pam that ripped through Vanuatu in 2015. Martyn, who is the co-ordinator of Teaching and School Operations in Rosemeadow, is excited to be able to provide some cricket coaching for the teachers and students in Vanuatu.

“With the help of Sydney Thunder and their donation of a cricket kit and clothing we will be able to teach the students at this school how to play this wonderful game”, Martyn said.

“We have held fundraisers to buy a whipper snipper and push lawn mower for the school and Church so that the grounds can be more easily maintained.”

Sydney Thunder is committed to supporting the growth of cricket, both locally and overseas. The Thunder Nation has donated cricket equipment and uniform to; Kenya, Indonesia, Sierra Leone, Germany, Kenya, Fiji and the Caribbean.
