The Thunder Indigenous XI has recorded a 6-wicket win against the Kenya Under 19 team at Punchbowl Park.
Batting first, Kenya scored 133, with Rohan Davis (2/28) and Mike Jeffrey (2/21) the leading wicket takers for Sydney Thunder.
In response, the hosts lost a couple of early wickets before captain Ben Patterson constructed a patient innings to guide his team to victory.
“The game was incredible – the challenge it presented, the standards we encountered and the opportunity to play an international team made it so enjoyable”
said Ben Patterson, captain of the Thunder Indigenous XI.
The importance of this side is vital, giving young indigenous kids the opportunity to play better cricket, and a chance to learn of other aboriginal cultures from their teammates.
Patterson top scored with 91 not-out as the hosts passed the target, 4 wickets down.
Sydney Thunder has built a strong partnership with Cricket Kenya through the Thunder Foundation, which has donated gear to support the development of cricket in Nairobi.
The Kenya Under 19 team will play the MoneyGram Thunder Nation Cup All Stars in Rouse Hill on Thursday, before a final trial game against the Canada Under 19 team in Blacktown on Saturday.
